CONVERSION is a “nice” word for BRAINWASHING . . .
In the entire history of man, no one has ever been brainwashed and realized, or believed, that he had been brainwashed. Those who have been brainwashed will usually passionately defend their manipulators.
Cognitive dissonance is the mental discomfort that comes from holding two conflicting beliefs, values, ideas, or attitudes. People tend to seek consistency in their attitudes and perceptions, so this mental conflict causes highly unpleasant feelings of unease or discomfort.
For example someone puts years of their life's energy and work into a Cult, which feeds an emotional need to belong and limits your ability to think outside the box. They also create an emotional attachment to the group. If they now find out they have wasted all that time and could be seen as a fool to others, if they were to embrace the truth, that they were lied to. Instead CD kicks in and it takes much longer to free yourself from the lies annd Escape. The person actually defends their abusers to their own detriment.

The inconsistency between what people believe and how they behave motivates them to engage in actions that will help minimize feelings of discomfort. People attempt to relieve this tension in different ways, such as by rejecting, explaining away, or avoiding new information.

I have watched as Cognitive Dissonance has had a major impact on those I have been trying to wake up to the Truth all around them. I have watched people defend the lies and call me Ni-ave and all sorts of nasty and ugly things. I was the Messenger bringing what everyone wanted kept in the closet. I have a Myrid of Virtual Bullet Holes, because I care about my fellow Man. It takes standing out from the crowd and taking a look around and NOT discounting what you see. See things as they are Not how you would like them to be, then you can push for change but not until you see clearly.
