The cause of death for Lance Reddick, a beloved actor best known for his roles in HBO’s “The Wire” and the “John Wick” movie franchise, has been revealed.
According to a death certificate, obtained by TMZ on Thursday, Reddick died of ischemic heart disease and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. It also shows that the actor wanted to be cremated.
Ischemia is a condition in which “blood flow (and thus oxygen) is restricted or reduced in a part of the body,” according to the American Heart Association. Arteriosclerosis, meanwhile, manifests when “blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients from the heart to the rest of the body become thick and stiff,” cutting off blood flow to the organs and tissues, per the Mayo Clinic.
The subsequent clots can also cause a heart attack or stroke.
