An armed person fired a weapon at former President Donald J. Trump at his rally in Butler, Pa., on Saturday, according to a U.S. official and two people briefed on the matter. One rally attendee and the suspected shooter were killed, the two people briefed on the matter said.
Mr. Trump was “fine,” according to a spokesman for his campaign. He was escorted off the stage by Secret Service agents and into his motorcade, with his face and ear were bloodied as he was rushed off the stage. As he was escorted to his motorcade, he pumped his fist in a defiant gesture to the crowd.
A Secret Service spokesman said Mr. Trump was “safe.” A spokesman for the Trump campaign, Steven Cheung, said in a statement that the former president was “fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility.” He did not provide further information on whether or how Mr. Trump had been injured, and officials would not provide more information on whether any rally attendees were injured.
Here’s what else to know:
Mr. Trump had been showing supporters a chart of numbers about border crossings when the apparent shots rang out. He ducked quickly after the noises began, with the sound coming from the bleachers left of where he was standing at a lectern. The noises came in two groups, and smoke appeared in that section of the bleachers.
President Biden was briefed on the incident by the director of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle; Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of homeland security; and Liz Sherwood-Randall, his homeland security adviser, the White House said.
Gov. Josh Shapiro, Democrat of Pennsylvania, said in a statement that he had been briefed and that the state police were on the scene working with federal partners. The Secret Service is leading the investigation, but the Justice Department, the F.B.I. and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will assist, according to federal officials.
Republicans and Democrats alike were quick to condemn what they viewed as an apparent act of political violence. “I am horrified by what happened at the Trump rally in Pennsylvania and relieved that former President Trump is safe,” Senator Chuck Schumer, Democrat of New York, said in a statement. Representative Steve Scalise, the No. 2 House Republican, who was shot in 2017, said that “there is never any place for political violence.”
After what sounded like gun shots rang out, members of the crowd began screaming, and Mr. Trump was tackled by Secret Service agents. After he departed, a group of officials wearing camouflage escorted someone off a set of bleachers to the left of the podium where Mr. Trump was speaking.
Those who attend Mr. Trump’s campaign rallies are subject to security screenings. They are required to enter through metal detectors, and their bags and possessions are searched for weapons and a large number of banned items.

PRESIDENT TRUMP *** SHOT **** IN PENNSYLVANIA
Democrats have commenced CIVIL WAR in the United States, as one of them shot President Donald Trump at a Rally in the “Blue” state of Pennsylvania. Trump was hit in the head, but it appears to have been a grazing wound, tearing-open his ear.
During a Campaign Rally in western Pennsylvania, the former president and presumptive Republican nominee was showing off a chart of border crossing numbers during his last rally before the Republican National Convention opens Monday when bangs started ringing through the crowd. Trump could be seen reaching with his right hand toward his neck. There appeared to be blood on his face.
He quickly ducked behind the riser as agents from his protective detail rushed the stage and screams were heard in the crowd of several thousand people. The bangs continued as agents tended to him on stage.
Unconfirmed reports claim EIGHT SHOTS were fired.
For months, the Democrats have tried using every means of treachery to stop President Trump; even resorting to a completely fraudulent criminal case in Left-wing cesspool, New York City. Nothing stopped – or even slowed – Trump’s campaign.
Now, Democrats have drawn “First Blood.” War has been declared by this act.
It appears to many that Civil War 2 has actually begun.
Now that they’ve started it, whatever comes to them is their own fault.
UPDATE 7:30 PM EDT —
Unconfirmed reports say that innocent rally attendees were also shot, with one report **CLAIMING** the attendee is dead. This is **NOT** confirmed.
UPDATE 7:34 PM EDT —
UNCONFIRMED reports claim a bullet may be lodged in President Trumps skull. This claim seems, to many observers, to fit the video above wherein President Trump was unable to walk well under his own power . . . if it were just a graze wound, he ought not have had trouble walking.
UPDATE 7:40 PM EDT —
Shooter is dead. One other person, an innocent bystander in the crowd, is also confirmed dead according to the Butler County District Attorney. (Dead men tell no tales)
UPDATE 7:44 PM EDT —
Confirmation that at least one other person was shot; perhaps on the stage behind where President Trump was speaking. Pennsylvania State Troopers, and at least one Emergency Medical Technician (female) can be seen carrying another person out who has blood on his arms.
