Diana<\/b>[a]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0<\/span>is a\u00a0<\/span>goddess<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>Roman<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>Hellenistic religion<\/a>, primarily considered a patroness of the\u00a0<\/span>countryside<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>hunters<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>crossroads<\/a>, and the\u00a0<\/span>Moon<\/a>. She is\u00a0<\/span>equated<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>with the\u00a0<\/span>Greek goddess<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>Artemis<\/a>, and absorbed much of Artemis’ mythology early in Roman history, including a birth on the island of\u00a0<\/span>Delos<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>to parents\u00a0<\/span>Jupiter<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>Latona<\/a>, and a twin brother,\u00a0<\/span>Apollo<\/a>,[2]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0<\/span>though she had\u00a0<\/span>an independent origin in Italy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Diana<\/i>\u00a0<\/span>by\u00a0<\/span>Renato Torres<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>(Portalegre<\/a>), is one of the best and most representative tapestries of the European and Portuguese tapestries of the 20th century.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Diana is considered a virgin goddess and protector of childbirth. Historically, Diana made up a triad with two other Roman deities:\u00a0<\/span>Egeria<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>the water nymph, her servant and assistant midwife; and\u00a0<\/span>Virbius<\/a>, the woodland god.[3]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

Diana is revered in modern\u00a0<\/span>neopagan<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>religions including\u00a0<\/span>Roman neopaganism<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Stregheria<\/a>, and\u00a0<\/span>Wicca<\/a>. From the medieval to the modern period, as folklore attached to her developed and was eventually adapted into neopagan religions, the mythology surrounding Diana grew to include a consort (Lucifer<\/a>) and daughter (Aradia<\/a>), figures sometimes recognized by modern traditions.[4]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0<\/span>In the ancient, medieval, and modern periods, Diana has been considered a\u00a0<\/span>triple deity<\/a>, merged with a goddess of the moon (Luna<\/a>\/Selene<\/a>) and the underworld (usually\u00a0<\/span>Hecate<\/a>).[5]<\/a><\/sup>[6]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n
